We’ll work with employers and schools to create high-quality work-based learning opportunities for students in the Outer East.
OELLEN is proud to announce that in 2027 we will deliver the Victorian Government’s School to Work program in the Outer East. This includes these local government areas:
Maroondah City Council
Knox City Council
Yarra Ranges Council
We will work with employers to create more work-based learning opportunities for students, helping prepare them for real workplaces and to make informed decisions about their post-school pathways.
As part of this, OELLEN will maintain and grow its connections with local businesses and schools to make sure students don’t miss out on the chance to learn in and about the workplace.
Exploring careers through real workplaces and employers can be pivotal for young people. They get to build practical work-readiness skills, and it can help keep them engaged in their education.
Connecting with students is also an incredible opportunity for employers to build relationships with their future workforce and grow their profile in the local community.
OELLEN is looking forward to working with employers, schools and the Department of Education to create meaningful opportunities for students in the Outer East.
What is School to Work?
School to Work is the Victorian Government’s place-based program that connects local employers, industry partners and schools to improve school student access to work-based learning.
This means more students can explore careers, develop employability skills and make informed pathways and career choices that match their interests.
School to Work providers connect with employers to find opportunities for school students to do work-based learning activities. For government school students, this includes:
industry exposure activities for groups of students in years 7-9
work experience placements and structured workplace learning placements
school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) as part of the Head Start program.
We are one of several organisations that will lead delivery of School to Work across Victoria in 2027-2029.
What we’ll do as a School to Work provider
We will continue to build and nurture our network of employers and industry partners that can provide work-based learning activities for school students.
We will work with this network to help schools find work-based learning opportunities. This will include providing schools with more help to find placements for students who face more barriers to participation.
We will also help employers understand how to provide an opportunity that is beneficial for both the student and their organisation, including how to meet requirements and make adjustments that might be needed.
What’s next
We’ll provide more information early next year about how we will deliver the program in [area/s].
