Inside Eastern Health: Work Experience Week 2026

For a second year running, OELLEN has partnered with Eastern Health to give Year 10 students a genuine look inside one of the region's largest healthcare providers, running from Monday 15 to Friday 19 June 2026, alongside our Yarra Ranges Council program the very same week.

Building on the success of 2025, government schools across the outer East were invited to nominate Year 10 students for placements, with students heading to either Maroondah Hospital or Healesville Hospital for the week.

The program opened with a full day of orientation at Maroondah Hospital, giving all students a shared grounding in hospital operations and workplace safety, including hand hygiene and mask fitting, before the week's expectations were set. From there, students spent four days rotating through clinical areas spanning nursing, allied health therapies, allied health sciences, and medicine, with Maroondah-based students remaining on-site and Healesville-based students returning to their local hospital for the rotations.

The program also carries a strong focus on inclusion, with priority placements at Healesville Hospital available to Indigenous students, with promotion of the opportunity supported by Eastern Health's Aboriginal Employment Officer.

For students, the week offers something you simply can't get from a classroom: real exposure to the breadth of careers within a major hospital network, and a clearer sense of what a future in health care could look like. For OELLEN and our school partners, it's another example of what a well-structured, genuinely embedded industry placement can achieve, sitting alongside our Yarra Ranges Council program as one of two standout Work Experience Week partnerships this term.

Our thanks go to Eastern Health for continuing to open its doors to the next generation of the Outer East's healthcare workforce.
