The Careers in Manufacturing Program (CiM) has been developed to promote the exciting and extensive range of career options available to young people in the Manufacturing & Engineering sectors. The Program has been designed to ensure that Years 9 & 10 secondary students are able to “see, taste, touch & feel manufacturing”. It is a Victoria wide program. OELLEN is the Lead Agent in the Outer East.

The CiM program can organise an exciting number of industry tour options and Young Industry Ambassador visits . These tours can be funded under the CiM program and many sites have a Young Industry Ambassador available on site.

Participating Sectors include:Aerospace, Automotive, Biotechnology, Chemicals, Hydrocarbon & Oil, Electrical & Electronics, Fine Trades, Food, Heavy Engineering, Furnishings, Maintenance & Installation, Mineral Products, Metals, Production Manufacturing, Plastics, Rubber & Cabling and Textiles, Clothing & Footwear.

 The key components of the Program include:

 All Years 9-10 students are eligible to participate & it is a cost free program.

  • Flexibility of activity for participants.  Schools may choose to complete one or multiple activities, according to individual school needs.
  • The only mandatory component of the program is the completion by students of 2 evaluation surveys upon commencement and after the completion of the program. 
  • Young Industry Ambassadors ( Y.I.A ) can visit schools or host tours through their organization.  Y.I.A’s will talk about their career pathway & highlight the many exciting & high tech careers available in the Manufacturing & Engineering sectors.
  • Opportunity for schools to visit a number of organizations & experience first hand what goes on in the manufacturing sector.                                                                     
  • Provision of resources for teachers to include in classroom activities.
